On January 1, 2024, a new EU directive with rules for sustainability reporting, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, was introduced. The directive will contribute to meeting the EU’s Green Deal target of climate neutrality by 2050 by steering towards sustainable investments.

All annual and sustainability reporting will be brought together in the European Single Access Point (ESAP), the EU’s initiative to provide investors with easy access to company information and information on other investment products.

ESEF stands for European Single Electronic Format, and is a digital format requirement for annual and consolidated accounts and sustainability reports to be submitted to each country’s control authority. In Sweden, it is the Financial Supervisory Authority.

With the EU’s new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) comes a need for more detailed reporting requirements. The practicalities of reporting and the metrics to be used are regulated by the EU’s new ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards).
